How a classic Pragmatic table works

Seven seats. When the table is full you can often still play through Bet Behind on another player's hand.
Cards come from a multi-deck shoe, usually 8 decks, reshuffled when the cut card comes out.
Blackjack normally pays 3:2, and insurance is offered when the dealer shows an ace.
Side bets such as Perfect Pairs and 21+3 are offered next to the main bet.
Sitting out has a limit. Seated players who skip several rounds in a row get warned and then removed from the seat.

The strategy to use

On an 8-deck table where the dealer stands on soft 17, use the 8-deck basic strategy chart. The most common mistakes:

Standing on 12 against a dealer 2 or 3. Hitting loses less.
Standing on 16 against a 7 to ace. Hit it, unless the count is high against a 10.
Not doubling 11 against a 10. Double it.
Splitting 10s. Never split 10s; always split 8s and aces.

Side bets

From a full shoe, Perfect Pairs and 21+3 carry a much larger house edge than the main game. Their real value depends on which cards are left, so they're usually best skipped.

Counting cards on a Pragmatic shoe

Because the cards come from a real shoe, counting works the same way as at any live table: count from the shuffle, convert to a true count, and expect a small edge that comes and goes. If you join mid-shoe, wait for the next shoe before trusting your count.
